A lot of folks don't realize that Oregon state is primarily one big desert with 70+% being legit desert mixed with high mountain desert where trees & plant life flourish yet we can hit 120°F in summer.
We have Cactus, Scorpions, Rattle snakes, Lizards, thousands of miles of varying Sage brush, Tumbleweeds, abandoned mines, ghost towns, & rugged sturdy never flinching Juniper. I live on the line of high mountain desert & sand barrens. A handful of miles one way I am in a unique high elevation sub alpine forest with an abundance of plant allies some that only grow here & a handful of miles in the other way I am in a unique sand barren where the eyes of a visitor would assume there's only sage & sand growing.
When we venture into these middle places we are greeted by the desert conifer Juniper.
There are many smells that mark home for me living in such a unique area, just as there are many smells for me that mark my childhood having travelled all over this country as a homeless teen. One smell remains steady, sought out, relied upon, needed to lift myself up again & again. Of course this is the unflinching Juniper with her ability to survive where others have laid down becoming bleached out bones under the unforgiving sun of life.
She is one plant ally I not only deeply lean upon but aspire to be like.
To fruit & flourish even if it took or takes years for my ambitions to ripen just like her berries do.
This scent is pure endurance against the things in life that would hold us in low places & she would like to pass on her ability to thrive in hard places to anyone who chooses not only to adorn her but to embody her!
Her natural citrus scent would love to help gently lift us out of these low moods that keep us stuck in our chairs, beds,& minds yet this is not magic this is the science of scent triggering feelings & intentions causing reactions!
It's such a simple little act of rolling on a touch of Juniper infused oil onto our wrists, temples, even under our noses yet it's such a powerful one.
A powerful one because we are telling our mind & body that we want to be uplifted!
All of my salves/balms/butters/creams/teas etc are made with ethically wildcrafted whole herbs from contaminant free areas, organically grown in my personal garden or sourced from an organic producer within the united states. I only use organic oils, beeswax, and tallows.
My oils of choice are Avocado, Safflower, Coconut oil.
My honey is raw and local.
All salves, balms and most body butters contain beeswax.
I use absolutely no essential oils.
All of my oils are infused with herbals for 4-6+ weeks at a time away from the sun for deep slow and patient infusion of each plants herbal properties.
For creams/butters that contain water content, I use a proper FDA approved paraben free preservative at a minuscule but effective 0.2% level to prevent very dangerous contaminants such as molds/bacteria/yeast.
All metal tins are approved for heat contact, all tubes are BPA free, all plastic is recycled and BPA free, all glass jars are lead-free.
Did you know that every purchase gets us even closer to opening up our nonprofit hands-on herbal learning farm called "Dinner still needs cooking" a place where you can come and learn side by side with me for free?!
