I could tell you she was started on a new moon & I could play up the spiritual sales pitch of imparting that energy.
But I'd rather tell you the truth of it. We harvest from trees in the New Moon because we aren't assholes. During a Full Moon waters are pulled up & the trees are more likely to bleed out from damage.
I could tell you that she sat for many nights bathing in the moons light now glowing with it. But I'd rather tell you that she sat in a dark cupboard away from all while properly tincturing because that's just how long it takes.
I could spin you some fanciful tale with ease.
But really I'd like to tell you she glows because I was patient in her making, respectful of the plant allies involved, & this is simply a reaction that happens when we add water.
Because she was not created on a whim of adding volatile oils we think smell pretty together & slapping on some witchy type name upon a label.
Fuck it drop a crystal in there for good measure right?
No she took time. She took generations of trial & error our unwillingness to sway to an ever increasing tide of instant gratification. In this we are rewarded with a true perfume.
A scent of hot summer as I know it.
Grandma always smelled of vanilla made from home liquor & when we'd come back from gathering Alpine Fir all morn the smells danced together through those old lace curtains in the hot breeze.
I recall saying to her I wished I could smell like that, she smiled.
"You think your the first one to like them two smells together?" as she motioned towards the old root cellar that had seen prouder days.
Those shelves were packed but out of all of the jars one stood tall & catching that glimpse of sun it lit up with a green I'll never forget & always chase.
The moment she opened it my jaw ached & watered like I was about to taste some woodland flavored candy.
She grabbed a tiny old bottle with a dried out cork top & filled it nearly up saying "Just one more thing" up into her bedroom in her cedar chest was a little golden bottle of true sandalwood tincture & a few drops added.
This is the scent of my childhood & I'd like to share it with you!
A true alcohol-based perfume with even notes of high mountain fir trees lifted by sweet low tones of true vanilla beans all held together with warm and full notes of true sandalwood tincture.
