History and Folklore
Horehound has danced with man since the time of Egyptians when they dedicated her to their God Horus, in that time the priests called her the Seed of Horus, or the Bull's Blood, and the Eye of the Star. Horehound is one of the five plants which are stated by the Mishna to be the "bitter herbs" ordered to be taken by those of Jewish faith at the Feast of the Passover.
Habitat and Growth information
Horehound is a flowering plant in the mint family (Lamiaceae), native to Europe, northern Africa, and southwestern and central Asia. It is also widely naturalized in many places, including most of North and South America. She needs full sun and well drained soil and can grow in nutrient deficient areas and sandy soils.
All of my tinctures are made with fresh plant matter that has been either ethically wild crafted from contaminant free areas or it has been grown organically in my own garden!
I use 100 proof food grade alcohol which means each bottle has 50% water 50% alcohol so each drop is a balanced 1:1 ratio and is ready to use straight out of the bottle!
